Why Registered Chiropractors

registered_chiropractor_singaporeSo why choose a Registered Chiropractor in Singapore? You’ve got a headache—or back, shoulder, or leg pain while in Singapore—and you’re looking for a doctor of chiropractic (DC) to help with your problem. How do you make that decision? Should the size of the Yellow Pages advertisement be the determining factor? Selecting the right health care provider for your needs is important. The following suggestions are designed to simplify the decision-making process.

What qualifications should my chiropractor practicing in Singapore have?

If you are looking for a USA trained Chiropractic Doctor, the the first step is to ensure that your DC graduated from a school accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). The CCE is the national agency that accredits chiropractic colleges in the United States. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Second, he is licenced in one of the States in the USA.

Does the Ministry of Health (MOH) regulate Chiropractors in Singapore?

No. Like in the good old days of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), chiropractic being very new in Singapore is not yet regulated by MOH. The Ministry of Health has appointed The Chiropractic Association (Singapore) as the self-regulating body for the profession. Due to the effectiveness of chiropractic, even Chinese TCM practicioner are calling themselves "Chiropractors".

How can I be assurred of the best quality and ethics from the 100 chiropractors in Singapore?

You can't. Since the government do not even check if chiropractors are properly trained or even have a licence, there is no way to be sure of quality care. We can only reccommend you to choose a chiropractor that is a member of The Chiropractic Association (Singapore) who does make sure they are properly licenced. Also, for assurance that there is re-course in the unlikely event that anything should occur, a disciplinary process is in place and discourage the use of large treatment packages. Members are committed to open and honest recommendations based on research and prevailing evidence of effectiveness.

Why are members of the assocation allowed to sell only a maximum of 12 visits per treatment packages?

This is in line with USA standards of care. Large treatment packages usually have the business in mind rather than the patient. Patients often get enticed into buying huge chiropractic treatment packages, with the belief that they are saving money. Unfortunately, the contrary is true. Shorter treatment packages allow the patient and the doctor to constantly review their progress more frequently, to evaluate if their services worked for you. After 12 visits, if you need further care, you can always purchase more treatments.

How long will Dr Timothy Lim treat me?

Any good health care provider will work hard to get you out of the office and functioning independently as quickly as possible. Joint manipulation is a wonderful non-invasive procedure in the hands of a skilled doctor of chiropractic. It has been repeatedly shown to reduce pain and help patients function better in daily life. It has not been shown, however, to prevent problems. A good chiropractor will help you prevent musculoskeletal system problems by teaching you how to engage in regular exercise, maintain good posture, and practice other healthy living habits. As with any other health care decision, remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Choose a chiropractor you are comfortable with, who addresses your health concerns, and who uses sound principles of modern health care in help. The best source is often a referral from a relative or friend who has had good experiences with a doctor. That is usually how we run our business at Lifesystems Chiropractic. Results, not promises lead to new patients and we value that more than any other marketing methods.
